Downshift’s Rich editor displaying a sample document, with document navigation and editing controls.
The actual editor, with a little writing to get started.

The words first.
The syntax when you want it.

Write directly in a formatted document, work with live Markdown, or open the source. Three ways into the same document.

Rich

Headings, lists, links, and formatting stay part of the page while you write.

Live

Keep Markdown close, with rendered content and syntax revealed as you edit.

Source

See the Markdown itself. Edit with syntax highlighting and multi-cursor tools.

The same sample document in Downshift’s Source view, showing Markdown headings, a list and a block quote.
Same words. A different view.

A place for
the work around
the writing.

Start without a filename.

Capture an idea in Scratch. Native local recovery keeps it between sessions, before you decide where it belongs.

Keep your files familiar.

Open Markdown from ordinary folders. Read images and PDFs alongside your writing, and use two editor groups when one view isn’t enough.

Make room for different projects.

Separate work into Spaces. Bring related documents together in Collections without rearranging the files on disk.

Still taking shape.
Already a place to begin.
